A preschool teacher is the first person of authority that we meet in our lives outside of our family members. More often than not, they leave an impression on us with their actions. They set an expectation within us about future teachers in your life and can decide if you love your schooling years or not. Therefore, preschool teachers deserve all the appreciation for their work through thank-you letters. In this article, we will look at how to write a thank you letter to preschool teacher along with a few samples.

What is a thank you letter to preschool teacher? When is it required?

A thank you letter to preschool teacher is a letter students or parents write to preschool or kindergarten teachers to thank them for the hard work they put in. This is a great way to show appreciation to your teachers while exploring your creative side. More often than not, teachers feel better about themselves and their work when they receive thank-you letters.

Anytime is the best time to thank your teachers and write a thank you letter to preschool teacher. Ideally, you should write this document soon after the occasion that made you grateful for the educator like a graduation or landing a dream job. However, you can always write to your preschool teacher even as an adult, years after your schooling ended.

Tips to write an effective letter to your teacher

When writing a letter to your favorite preschool teacher, you need to use just the right words and the proper format. Doing so will impress them and make them feel like you have actually learned something from their class. Here are a few tips to write a thank-you letter to preschool teacher to get you started:

1. Handwritten over printed

A general rule of thumb for writing letters is to keep it handwritten. While printed letters ensure your recipient can understand and read the contents, it doesn’t give the personalized feeling that handwritten letters give. Therefore, choose to write your letter on a nice piece of paper and enclose it in an envelope. This is the best time to bring out your creative side by decorating the paper with illustrations and stickers. However, make sure what you write is legible to read.

2. Use the right greeting

While your preschool teacher may be like your best friend. However, when addressing them in a letter, you must use appropriate greetings. This means you should avoid using “hey” and “hi” and instead opt for “Dear.” In addition, add the proper title too along with the teacher’s last name. So, if the teacher’s name is William Faulkner, your letter’s greeting should look like this: Dear Mr. Faulkner. Using proper greetings and titles makes you seem more respectful and makes the teacher feel respected.

3. Be expressive

When writing a thank you letter to preschool teacher, don’t shy away from expressing your gratitude and feelings, in general. Specify how grateful you are for the teacher’s actions and gestures. Being expressive on such letters always pays as the recipient can feel the genuineness of the writer through the words.

4. Add specific details

It is always the best practice to add more details about why you are grateful. You can include information on how the educator has helped you in your life or class. This is also where you talk about the occasion that made you want to write the letter and exactly how the reader may have contributed towards the achievement. Adding specific details will help personalize the letter and make it more memorable among the several letters and notes the teacher may be receiving.

5. Keep it concise

The key to writing an effective letter is not beating around the bush. No one likes to read a letter that goes on and on for pages. Therefore, set a limit on how much you write. While adding details is necessary, filter the information that is not pertinent to the reason behind writing the letter. For instance, your pet’s health is not relevant in a thank you letter written to a teacher for helping you with weak subjects. Ideally, your letter shouldn’t cross 150-200 words.

6. Write from scratch

Perhaps one of the most common pieces of advice when writing any letter, especially a thank-you letter, is to never plagiarize the content. Most teachers get hundreds of thank-you notes and can easily pick up on copying. Therefore, even if you refer to a template or samples online, make sure you write down the letter using your words and not someone else’s. Similarly, don’t ask anyone else to write either because your teacher is smart enough to notice a change in tone and language. Therefore, they will know if a parent or friend wrote the letter for you.

7. Proofread

Lastly, proofread your letter. No one, especially no teachers, would appreciate reading a letter filled with grammatical and spelling errors. Therefore, once you are done with your draft, read and reread the letter repeatedly until you find no errors in it. Have someone else read the letter too, preferably a parent or older sibling, for further scans for issues.

Subject: Expressing gratitude for educating me

Dear Mr. Carson,

I am Lee Carter, a student in your class. I am writing this letter to thank you for being kind and patient with me. I ask a lot of questions, and people often get annoyed after answering a few of them. I am used to people asking me to go to someone else when I have questions. But you have never done that with me since the time I joined your class.

Just yesterday, I kept asking questions and questions about the countries and their capitals. While my classmates were booing me, asking me to keep quiet, you patiently answered all my queries. Momma says I should thank people for kind gestures through letters, so here I am writing this letter. Thank you, Mr. Carson, for always helping me out.

Yours Sincerely,

Lee Carter

Subject: Expressing gratitude for educating my child

Dear Mr. Carson,

Hope you are doing well.

Emily came up to me yesterday after school and told me she was being bullied by her classmates for having glasses. While I was upset about this incident, what relieved me was how you handled the situation. I’m grateful to you for standing up for my daughter.

Emily told me how you intervened at the right moment and handled the situation smartly, resulting in her classmates apologizing to her for their behavior. I have an elder son who had undergone severe bullying in a previous school and the administration never handled it appropriately. When I see how you explained why bullying is bad instead of admonishing them, I am grateful that you are Emily’s teacher.

Thank you for being such a positive influence on the kids; we need more teachers like you.

Yours Sincerely,

Lee Carter

Subject: Expressing gratitude for your excellent work

Dear Mr. Carson,

Yesterday, we conducted a covert feedback session with the kids where they were to give their honest opinion about their teachers. Your name received a lot of appreciation and positive feedback from the kids across grades. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for being a part of this school and being such an excellent teacher through this letter.

We need more teachers like you who can connect with students and amicably resolve conflicts between students and teachers. You have set an exemplary example among the teaching community with the way you conduct yourself and the classes. Once again, I thank you for your great work. I hope you keep thriving in our school like this.

Yours Sincerely,

Subject: Expressing gratitude for educating me

Dear Mr. Carson,

Yesterday, I graduated from middle school. This is a milestone I hadn’t thought I would reach in my life after the horrific incident in preschool. However, you went out of your way to bring me out of the dark place I was emotional to push me to continue my education. So, today, it is because of you and your continued support that I have successfully graduated from middle school.

I have had a lot of teachers sympathize with me over the years in different schools due to my disability. However, none of them ever took the initiative to keep in touch despite my transfer to a new school. You were there to support me emotionally whenever I needed a pillar in my life when I joined the new campus. I am eternally grateful for your kind gesture. I hope we can keep in touch going forward.

Once again, thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

Lee Carter

Subject: Expressing gratitude for educating me

Dear Mr. Carson,

Teacher’s appreciation day is coming up, and I remembered how long it had been since I reached out to you. Years have passed since preschool and my schooling years, for that matter. However, I will never forget your class back in kindergarten, and I am grateful for that.

Growing up, I was always into books and not into going outside to play with other kids. This often concerned my parents because they felt I was reclusive and would end up alone in the world. Even kids in my class teased me about it. However, you always understood that I was just a shy kid who needed the right people to open up.

Because of your encouragement, I was able to bloom into the person I have become today. I want to thank you for being such a great teacher. The world definitely needs more teachers like you.

Yours Sincerely,

Lee Carter

Subject: Expressing gratitude for educating me

Dear Mr. Carson,

Yesterday, I received an offer letter from a publishing house for the role of a copy editor. I am thrilled about this opportunity but also sincerely grateful for all the encouragement you had given me throughout my preschool years. With your support, I don’t think I would have been able to chase my dreams.

My parents were always conservative and wanted me to become a lawyer. Even at a young age, they wouldn’t let me read fiction and instead gave me law-related books to read. You were one of the very few adults back in preschool that understood the passion I had for fiction and chose to stand up for me.

It is because of your conversation with my parents that they allowed me to read fiction and later, pursue a degree in literature and publishing. Today, I have landed this job because of you, and I am eternally grateful for that.

Yours Sincerely,

Lee Carter
